Why The Change of Heart?

Even though I make a decent living in the technology industry, until now, I have resisted the urge to join the blogging scene. This was partly out of fear that a) no one could possibly find what I have to say interesting (I bore myself most of the time) and b) someone actually might find it interesting.

The former would be like kicking a man when he's down. I could envision some sort of table showing all of the blogs listed by order of popularity and the hit count for my blog being a negative number.

The latter of course would bring with it the subsequent obligations to continue to be interesting. Who needs more obligations, eh?

Well, in my little neck of the universe today, we are under the dreaded Winter Storm Watch or Warning (I always get those confused). In North Carolina, that means that you:

  • Go to the grocery store to purchase bread and milk.
  • Get off and stay off of the roads.
Though I have lived in the Old North State for over 21 years (almost as long as in my beloved Pennsylvania), I have never really grokked the whole "go to a grocery store and buy bread and milk". A fine Merlot. Yep. A case of Bud Light. Damn straight. Just never understood why I would need highly perishable items in a scenario where loss of electricity was possible (more on that in subsequent posts).

So now I find myself on my first day of holiday vacation locked in for a bit, so why not give this blogging deal a try? Awhile back a colleague at work indicated that she was using this site. Though I actually have never visited her blog (I lost the name of it), I did remember the blogger.com URL she told me about. The price is right and the feature set of the composition tools looks good enough so here goes.

There is really no significance to the name of this blog other than it sounds cool (to me anyways). A Sundog is a weather phenomena that creates bright lights in the sky. I was introduced to the term when I first heard the song "Chained Lightning" by one of my all-time favorite progressive rock bands - Rush). That was in 1990 (could it be 19 years ago?). That CD happened to be on my kitchen table as I was creating this blog, so Sun Dogs Fire is the winner.

In terms of what I plan to write about here, who knows - my life and my family, movies, music, sports. Work is a big part of my life so there will be a bit about that.
